Titre | Marina Escolano-Poveda, Astrologica athribitana: Four demotic-hieratic horoscopes from Athribis (O. Athribis 17-36-5/1741 and ANAsh.Mus.D.O.633 reedited). |
Publication | Journal for the History of Astronomy 53 (2022) pp. 49-87, figg. |
Résumé | Presents the edition of three new horoscopes from Athribis in Upper Egypt (O. Athribis 17-36-5/1741), and the reedition of ANAsh.Mus.D.O.633, identified as part of the same group of horoscopes originating from Athribis. The first three horoscopes date to the reign of Augustus (27, 21, and 6 BCE), and the Ashmolean text to year 8 of Cleopatra, 44 BCE. The Athribis group constitutes the earliest attestation of horoscopes from Egypt. They include the date of birth, name, and origin of the native, entries for the two luminaries and the planets, and the position of the four cardines and Places. Relevant features not commonly present in other Demotic horoscopes are a series of lunar dates following the 25-year cycle of P. Ryl. IV, 589, the complete listing of the Places, Term rulers in the longitudes, and a short phrase that may be connected to the calculation of the length of life. |

Titre | Norbert Franken, Von Kultdienern und schwarzen Sklaven. Zu Ikonographie und Technik zweier hellenistischer Bronzestatuen aus Ägypten. |
Publication | BABesch 97 (2022) pp. 65-76, figg. |
Résumé | The focus of the investigation are two little-known and only partially preserved bronze statuettes from Egypt, which apparently represent young men in ordinary working clothes. With the help of new photographs with detailed side and rear views, succeeds in reinterpreting a statuette of a young man that was recently found in a private collection in the United States. Although the figure had already been correctly assigned to a bronze workshop in Roman Egypt in the auction catalogue of the Julien Gréau collection, which was published in 1885, this attribution seemed to have been forgotten recently. Even if there are no comparable examples among the preserved bronzes, a number of iconographically related terracottas can be cited, which speak for a origin from Hellenistic-Roman Egypt and an identification of the depicted as a servant in the cult of Harpocrates. - The second part is about a statuette torso, which was probably acquired in Lower Egypt and has long been on permanent loan from the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin in the Antikensammlung of the University of Kiel, which can be reconstructed as a figure of a standing African slave wearing the exomis. |

Publication | ZSav 139 (2022) pp. 377-390. |
Résumé | Examines the various forms of signatures on offers for a μίσθωσις of land with regard to a conclusion of a contract. Reference is made to Peter Herrmann's thesis (1958), which says that offers in the form of hypomnemata are seen as an empty form from a certain point in time onwards. |

Titre | Wolfgang Kaiser, Überlegungen zum Vertragsschluss bei einer μίσθωσις über Grundstücke. |
Publication | ZSav 139 (2022) pp. 391-409. |
Résumé | Discusses the question how a μίσθωσις of properties can become binding for the parties according to the greco-egyptian documents. It tries to show that Hans Julius Wolff’s teaching of the "Zweckverfügung" is not sustainable for the conclusion of a μίσθωσις of properties. Instead of modifying this teaching (Behrend, Herrmann and Kränzlein), which is not indicated by the documents, the μίσθωσις of properties in the greco-egyptian documents can also be seen as a binding contract, and its liability is based on the consensus of the parties. |

Titre | Marcin Kotyl, A list of village payments and the bouleutic career of Theodoros. |
Publication | BZ 115 (2022) pp. 239-254. |
Résumé | Discusses the bouleutic career of a certain Theodoros, son of Komasios, who flourished in fourth-century Hermopolis. Based on an edition of a new papyrus fragment (P.Giss. inv. 307), it argues that Theodoros - before he was the riparius in 362 CE - served as the praepositus pagi. Also, a revision of CPR VIII 36,7 reveals that at a certain point in his career Theodoros was called the prototypos poleos, which is a forerunner of the later proteuon or the honorary titulature for members of the city council. |

Résumé | Re-examines a papyrus fragment, P. Oxy. LXV, 4458 (= MP3 1436.01; LDAB 5415), which describes the flooding of the Nile and discusses its causes. Proposes to attribute this papyrus to the meteorology of Posidonius, whose content and method are analysed thanks to several hitherto neglected passages of Strabo and Priscianus Lydus. |
